Leap Of Faith by John Taglieri is the twelfth song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive over the past couple of years.
John performed Leap Of Faith during his interview on Alive with Clive on December 14, 2007.
Leap Of Faith is the second inspiring song by John to be featured on my Blog. The other inspiring song of his I have featured earlier on my Blog is Starring Role.
When I posted Starring Role on my Blog, I referred to Bob Baker’s testimonial about John. Bob Baker is an author, indie musician and former music magazine editor dedicated to showing musicians of all kinds how to get exposure, connect with fans, sell more CDs, and increase their incomes. This is what Bob has to say about John:
John Taglieri is one of the hardest working men in indie music. He’s sold more than 12,000 CDs over the past several years, tours regularly, runs his own record label and publishing company, teaches, and more. John is the king of generating multiple streams of music income. He’s the co-author of ‘How to Make a Living as a Full-Time Indie Musician’ and has a music career work ethic like no one you’ve ever met. He’s even landed sponsorships with Ovation, Marshall and Curt Mangan Strings.
To find out how you can obtain a copy of “How To Make a Living as a Full-Time Indie Musician,” which is a recording of an interview Bob Baker conducted with John and consists of three hours of audio on seven downloadable mp3 files, click here now.
Also, as previously mentioned, John is an inspiration not only for other musicians but for anyone who is keen to turn their passion into profit, because through planning, dedication and discipline, he found a way to quit his day job so he could tour and play gigs as often as his voice and schedule allows.
Now John has just launched an innovative new project called The “Lives” Project, with the release of his latest EP, Lives. As mentioned in a Press Release about the project dated May 1, 2009, posted at CD Baby:
“Lives” is a two-year creative effort that will consist of four EP’s, four books, four graphic novels, and an extensive online presence for both the project overall as well as the individual lead characters.
The brainchild of musician John Taglieri, “Lives” was born of a series of songs written in early 2009. Taglieri and musical co-writer Brad Whitley, in the midst of writing what was to be the second in a string of EP’s, realized they had a storyline in their latest round of compositions. Taglieri took the storyline idea and proceeded to expand upon it.
Collaborating with storywriter Gil Gonzalez, they formulated the idea of an EP/book combination, with each track on the CD corresponding to each chapter in the book, and both media being released at the same time. Taglieri then contacted long time friend and graphic designer Tony Marchesani, and brought him into the project to handle the production of the graphic novel.
Chronicling the lives of fictional characters Cate Alston and Max Knight, “Lives” follows Cate & Max from their introduction and meeting to various points along their two-year journey of life, and highlights all the ups and downs they experience along the way. Self professed rejects, Max and Cate were always unlucky both in life and in love. Having stumbled into each other’s lives, Cate and Max start a journey of love, discovery, and honest soul searching that takes them across the country and deep into each other’s persona.
The “Lives” Project will consist of four 6-song EP’s, four 6-chapter books & four graphic novels, as well as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger accounts for both Max and Cate. The two main characters will build their own friend and fan bases online to follow them through the project.
The project will release its first installment on June 2nd, 2009, with subsequent releases in October 2009, April 2010 and the final installment in October 2010. The project will have its home on the web at http://TheLivesProject.com.
CDs and books will be available via various retail outlets, and both Taglieri & Gonzalez will be available for interviews and press. Various live shows as well as an in-store book tour will be planned to support the releases.
During his interview on Alive with Clive on December 14, 2007, John discussed the factors that led to the writing of his song, Leap Of Faith. Because there are so many lessons to be learned from what he said, I have transcribed his comments for you to read here:
Being someone who played different instruments, I was always playing in bands, whether I was the lead guitar player in one band, a bass player in a different band, or a keyboard player in this band. I was always playing in bands or as someone’s side man and then I got into a cover band and I wound up getting to a point in my life where I realized I hadn’t written a song in a few years because I got comfortable with this paid social life being in a cover band. And I got real mad at myself [because] the one thing I really loved I wasn’t doing. And that led to my first record. That unhappiness led me to find my place to go to do my first record and the first song I wrote for that was called Leap Of Faith. And it turned out to be the title track for the first record, because it was like OK, here I am, I’m not doing anything with anybody. I’m going to do this by myself and I’m going to make this happen. I’d been close to bigger things before and something always went wrong and I wanted to find out if it was my karma or the karma of the situation. And here, 7 years later, I can definitely say it wasn’t me because now I make a good living, I make a full-time living, at this, and I’ve achieved everything I ever set out to do. So it’s been great. It’s been fun!
So, in essence, if you read between the lines, John came to the realization that it was time for him to face his fears, get out of his comfort zone, stop making excuses, refrain from being a people-pleaser, give up justifying his procrastination, trust his intuition, listen to his heart and take that Leap Of Faith. And, as is clearly apparent, that Leap Of Faith turned out to be the turning point in his life and in his career that led him to be living the life he finds so fulfilling now!
I’m tempted to provide you with the lyrics to the entire song here, but instead recommend that you listen to the lyrics carefully yourself. Here, though, is a sampling of the lyrics:
Knock down the doors and throw out the rulebook
Nobody’s coming before me now
I’ll hold my head higher and higher
I’m gonna take my stand now
Leap of faith, that’s what they call it
Leap of faith, and I feel so free now
Leap of faith, no one can hold me down again
In this leap of faith
