“Melting Moments” by Karen Jacobsen

Hello Friends:

Melting Moments by Karen Jacobsen is the first song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive over the past couple of years.

Karen performed Melting Moments, the third song from her CD, Kissing Someone Else, on the piano generously provided by Eric Johnson courtesy of Frank & Camille’s in Hartsdale, New York, during one of her two interviews on Alive with Clive on June 5, 2007.

Karen has shared the stage with Norah Jones, Christopher Cross, Jars of Clay, Three Dog Night, Deborah Cox, Cyndi Lauper and Spyro Gyra, and her songs have been heard on Dawson’s Creek and NBC.  She has performed across the United States, Australia, Germany, England, Malaysia and Thailand alone at the grand piano, with a full band and a capella singing the anthem at major sporting events.  Among her favorite performances are singing The Star Spangled Banner for a capacity crowd of 80,000 at Giants Stadium for the New York Jets, and at Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks.

Karen has appeared on network television in the United States and Australia, her speaking voice is used in voice systems worldwide, and she has released five CDs on her own label, Kurly Queen.  Her record, Kissing Someone Else, was voted into the Top 25 CDs of 2007 by Indie-Music.com.

During her interview on Alive with Clive, she described how her trip to Zambia was used as the theme for the video she created for her song, Melting Moments, and you can see the video for the song on her My Space page at www.myspace.com/karenjacobsen.  Additional information about Karen is available on her Web site at www.karenjacobsen.com.

Karen made the trip to Zambia as part of her affiliation with an organization known as To Zambia with Love, whose mission is to empower and inspire people to make a difference through child sponsorship with Children International.  Children International’s mission is to help children living in poverty.  For $22 a month, a child is sponsored to receive medical attention, a clean water supply and education to result in a healthy, self-reliant adult.

The song, Melting Moments, is about how Karen found the courage, strength and fortitude to persevere on the road to pursuing her passion in spite of a disheartening setback, and contains these lyrics I regard as particularly inspiring:

Though my patience is thin I refuse to lose my faith

I have made it this far; no I will not falter.

If it’s not for the love of being here,

If it’s not for the passion every day

If it’s not for the joy of melting moments,

I’m not gonna stay.
