Jeneen Terrana, the extraordinarily talented singer/songwriter best known for her song, “My Creation,” which I recommended on this Blog be sung at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, is in the midst of an innovative and inspiring campaign to create a new CD.
Combining her passion for music with her passion for baking, Jeneen has announced, as follows, that she will be meeting in the Park every day for the next several days to share her latest cake creation and sing for the fans who show up to meet her there and taste her cake, cookies or candy:
Jeneen’s 10 Days of Treats!! Feb. 14-23
Meet me at the park!
You heard right! Starting on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14th, I will be making a special baked good every day (cookie, cake, candy) and bringing it to the park from 12 to 12:45. Day 1, 2 and 3 will be in Union Square Park. If you fuel at the $10 level, you can meet me in the park, eat some tasty treats, and I’ll sing you a song a day from the new CD.
I’ll be posting a new video every morning to show you the featured goodies!! You can see the video on Facebook or my rocket hub page …
Feb. 17th – Gantry Park (LIC, Queens)
Feb. 18th – Astoria
Feb. 19th, 20, 21 – Bryant Park
Feb. 22 – Central Park
Feb. 23 – Union Square Park
Jeneen has set for herself a goal to raise $4,000 to finance the creation of her new CD, the successor to her current CD, which is also called My Creation, and after her first visit to the park has already raised $870, or 22% of her goal.
This is what Jeneen wrote on her Blog after her first trip to Union Square Park yesterday as part of her campaign:
Day one of “Jeneen’s 10 Days of Treats” was a success! As I stood on the steps at Union Square Park with my flourless chocolate cake in the cold, I was thinking to myself “Are you nuts? Nobody’s coming out today!”. Then, one by one, the friends & fuelers came. We ate cake and talked and took some pictures. I pulled the guitar out and my hands were a little numb from the cold but … we did it!! Thank you to all who came out today…Troy, Benjamin, Gus, Brian, Kana, and Michael. You all have a special place in my heart!
This RocketHub project is definitely stretching my creative boundaries. I love baking and sharing my baked goods but I’ve never tried anything like this! I hope you will all join me on this tasty journey. I’ll continue baking for the next ten days. Tomorrow, I’ll be at Union Square Park again from 12 – 12:45 with carrot cake & cream cheese frosting. I hope to see you there

”Untied”by Serotonen is the 22nd song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive in the past couple of years.
Serotonen’s lead vocalist, Jenna Handler, and pianist, Alex Gold, performed “Untied,” the first song from Serotonen’s debut album, when they appeared on Alive with Clive on February 20, 2009.
This is what you’ll discover about Serotonen from the band’s Bio on their Web site at www.serotonen.com:
What emerges upon listening to the New Jersey based five-piece rock band, Serotonen, is the sheer pleasure of their sound. Combining pop leaning, radio friendly melodies with the resonance and power of great modern rock, the band soars with an effortless sounding strength that is becoming their calling card in the New York music scene. Their new, self-titled debut album, serotonen, is the indisputable evidence of their skill, and should create a wide-open future for the band.
Serotonen comprises Jenna Handler on vocals, Alex Gold on piano and keyboards, Darren Darling on drums, Andrew Reyes on bass guitar, and Rich Wronski on guitar. The band was born out of an encounter in 2006 between Jenna and Alex, when Jenna was interviewing at a modeling agency where Alex worked.
Jenna’s vocal style is a blend of rock and pop, finding the spot where melody and brashness intersect. It’s fitting that Steven Tyler and Christina Aguilera are two of her greatest influences. Alex’s style emerged from a classic rock oriented background, a mixture of the song form of 60’s acts and the wild and free musical principles of artists unafraid of taking musical risks.
The songwriting process for the band is a simple one: Get together and just let it happen. Jenna elaborates, “Alex and I complement each other well. He has incredible musical intuition and an ability to channel unbelievable musical parts, and I’m really good at finding catchy, radio friendly melodies to lay over them. Then we write the lyrics together.”
Indeed, from the first notes of “Untied,” the opening track, it’s clear that this is a band in possession of a gift for songwriting, combining the dark hues of Alex’s piano, with a driving rhythm section and gritty guitar that leads into a hook filled chorus featuring Jenna’s soaring vocals.
With the release of serotonen, the band is now concentrating on developing a live following. Alex says, “Before, it was all about writing and readying to record. Now it’s about putting it out there. We’re ready to promote the album big time.” Jenna adds, “All we want is to spend our lives working on the music.” If the quality of the songs and performances on serotonen are any indication, that possibility is well within this band’s grasp.
The song, “Untied,” depicts one of the main themes of the album – losing one’s illusions about people, seeing them for who they really are and making it clear their acts of deceit will not be tolerated.
With “Untied,” more specifically, albeit indirectly, the song serves as a reminder that if you’ve been senselessly hoping and trusting that a person who has repeatedly let you down in a relationship will live up to your expectations next time around, you may be staying in the relationship to satisfy a desire to be liked, take comfort from what is familiar, or feel a sense of belonging. The song inspires you to have the courage and sense of self worth to break loose from the relationship to find another that is more fulfilling.
Here is the chorus from “Untied”:
Why climb so high
To over and over unendingly
Collide with deceit
Well that’s over, move over
Untied, I’m free
Notwithstanding a late start as a contender for a slot in The Alive with Clive Top 20,Serotonen has accomplished what many thought was impossible to overtake all the other contenders and claim the top spot in The Alive with Clive Top 20 after only a few months, and lately has been extending its lead.
To see a recent Press Release about Serotonen’s rise to the top of The Alive with Clive Top 20, click here.
Serotonen was also one of the bands to perform at the first Alive with Clive Top 20 concert, after Jessica Labus and before Anthony Melillo and The Melillo Brothers, at Waltz-Astoria in Queens, New York, on May 30, 2009.
Here’s the video clip for you to enjoy of Serotonen performing “Untied”on Alive with Clive:
”Religion”by Dani Tersini is the twenty-first song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive in the past couple of years.
Dani performed “Religion” during her appearance on Alive with Clivewith his brothers on April 24, 2009.
Wildly passionate, fiery and expressive. Dani Tersini’s performances are about letting go, releasing energy, breathing fire and smoldering with her audience. Being an innovative artist with versatility, imagination and power, Tersini’s essence expresses an eclectic blend of sounds reflecting the many facets of emotion stirring from within. Boldly following her dream and escaping from England to the Big Apple and not knowing a single soul, Dani is now surviving in the music capital of the world, and rocking the stages of venues such as The Bitter End, The Sidewalk Café, Banjo Jim’s and Caffe Vivaldi. She continues to thrive, stamping her own individuality on her music and performance.
When asked on Alive with Clive if she has a Big Dream for her life, she said:
My Big Dream has always been to perform in front of millions of people… just to feel everyone’s energy together… everyone’s energy bouncing off each other and everyone being as one with the music… and to have that sense of community and everyone being universal… peace and love and music!
During her interview, Dani mentioned that John Lennon has always been a huge inspiration in her life, and his song, “Imagine”, inspired her to write her song, “Religion.”
In “Religion,” Dani in essence poses this thought-provoking question: “Isn’t it ironic that religion is the cause of so much conflict in the world?” With penetrating, heartfelt, lyrics the song represents a plea for all people to dispense with hatred and violence and to have compassion and love for one another.
Here is the chorus:
Oh why, I said why do we feel so angry?
Feel the need to kill, to beat our brother
Is it justice, I think not?
Oh why? It only constricts our soul
Burns a hole in our world
What happened to, I said
And you call that religion?
“Religion” is a powerful song that has the potential to influence the world’s political and religious leaders and become known throughout the world. Furthermore, it’s an extraordinary contribution to the world so early in the music career of a young lady who is destined to make her mark on the world with her music through her passion and dedication to her craft.
Here’s the video clip for you to enjoy of Dani Tersini singing “Religion”on Alive with Clive:
”That’s My Son”by Anthony Melillo is the twentienth song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive in the past couple of years.
Anthony, who has appeared on Alive with Clive twice, the first time with his brothers, Joe and Nick, and the second time on his own, performed “That’s My Son” during his first interview on Alive with Clive with his brothers on February 22, 2008. Together, they are developing a following as The Melillo Brothers.
This is what Anton Evangelista, President of Comprehensive Films, has said about Anthony:
“Every once in a while, a talent comes along and everything clicks – voice, lyrics, music, performed by a young man who makes it all look so easy. Be on the lookout for Anthony Melillo – a singer/songwriter who brings together all the elements of great original music, beyond his young years!”
It all began for Anthony MelilloandThe Melillo Brothers when Joe, who was an accomplished baseball player throughout his youth, began beating on a set of drums at the age of 14 or 15 while Nick, two years younger, started to play the guitar. After a couple of years, the two decided to switch roles. At the age of ten, to participate with his older brothers, Anthony began to play with a bass guitar, but replaced that instrument after one year with an acoustic guitar, and has been writing songs ever since.
From the age of 13, Anthony has had an uncanny ability to use intricate lyrics to draw in his listeners. Musicians and producers alike are left amazed at the depth and perception that comes from his young, creative, mind. He is a unique personality being well rounded, yet passionate about his music and songwriting. An avid actor, singer and dancer, the energy he gives every project is nothing short of electric. As a result, his fan base spans all ages and is enjoying his debut album, Just Gettin’ Started, which includes “That’s My Son.”
More recently, Joe has studied entrepreneurship at Pace University and Nick majored in theater at SUNY, New Paltz. Anthony will soon begin studying music composition, songwriting and vocal studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
In recent months, the 18-year old Anthony has been performing to a growing base of fans at venues in Westchester, Manhattan, and other surrounding areas on his own and with Joe, who is now 23, and Nick, who is 21.
They were the headlining act at the first Alive with Clive Top 20 concert held at Waltz-Astoria in Queens, New York, on May 30, 2009, where they performed after Jessica Labus and Serotonen, and most appropriately ended the evening with a wonderful rendition of “That’s My Son.”
For several months, AnthonyandThe Melillo Brothers owned the top spot on The Alive with Clive Top 20 Chart, and remain high up on the Chart in second place.
In February 2009, another song from Just Gettin’ Started, “Kiss Me Sweetly” was voted The Alive with Clive Valentine’s Day Love Song For 2009. To see the Press Release announcing this accomplishment, click here.
Among other successes, as noted on their MySpace page, in the first round of a recent JanSport Battle of the Bands contest, The Melillo Brothers finished in third place out of 2,400 contestants! In addition, in the 2009 UK Songwriting Contest, out of 6,000 submissions “Kiss Me Sweetly” and “That’s My Son” were semi-finalists and “Never Slow Down,” another song from Just Gettin’ Started, was a finalist.
Anthony’s goal is to have his music be enjoyed and appreciated by music lovers all over the world. While he continues to write new songs, he looks forward to seeing his existing fans and meeting new fans at his upcoming appearances and shows.
Personally, I regard the song, “That’s My Son,” as a masterpiece. In my view, it’s a song every son wants his parents to hear, and the same can be said for every daughter too. I get goose bumps every time I hear it. It touches on a motivating force that underlies, usually unwittingly, so many choices we make and actions we take in our lives – and yet it’s a force people so rarely mention in their conversations with others. In essence, the song is about noticing that we want our parents to be proud of us, and as parents we want to be proud of our children. That sentiment is expressed eloquently and beautifully in the song.
To give you a sense of what I mean about the song, here’s the chorus:
I said I’d work real hard and I’ll do everything that you say
Cause all I wanna be is someone you look at, be led to say
That’s my boy, that’s my son
That’s my baby, my flesh and my blood
And he’s grown into someone that I can be proud of
That’s my boy, that’s the one
Doing his job and he’s having some fun
And you both look at me and be proud to say – yeah –
That’s My Son!
Needless to say, with “That’s My Son” and everything else Anthony, Nick and Joe are accomplishing at such a young age, they are making their parents, Joanne and Ray, very proud!
Here’s the video clip for you to enjoy of Anthony Melillo and The Melillo Brothers singing “That’s My Son”on Alive with Clive:
“Save The World”by Irena Hart is the nineteenth song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive in the past couple of years.
Irena, who has appeared on Alive with Clive three times, performed “Save The World” during her second interview on Alive with Clive on October 10, 2008.
This is what you’ll discover about Irena from her Bio on her MySpace page at www.myspace.com/irenahart:
Combine pop, dance, a message with spiritual compassion and love and you get Irena Hart. Born in the Ukraine as Irena Makarchuk, Irena moved to the United States when she was 12 and brought with her a European perspective that provides freshness to her music. She is a prolific composer with over 100 songs written, and is also an entertainer. Having developed a fan base in the New York area, Irena is now ready to explode on to the world stage.
There is something uniquely different about this musical beauty. A trained mechanical engineer, she holds 10 patents that range from medical science to ecologically friendly photo film. With so many talents and gifts, her passions lie with inspiring and empowering the homeless — and for a reason. She was homeless for two years. Take Irena’s heart, creativity, intellectual brilliance, and experiences and join them with the innovative American pop producer, Marcus “Bellringer” Bell, and you have a hit album that can move the masses.
Irena’s electrifying album, “Heart Strings,” [with a sound I describe as Lady Gaga meets ABBA], contemplates love and also keeps you “On the Dance Floor.” The first release off of the album is the title track, “Heart Strings.” The music video for “Heart Strings” is a display of the struggle to let go of the person you love when you know he or she is no good for you. The video showcases her talent and creativity as a dynamic artist. Along with its catchy dance melodies and memorable hooks, the “Heart Strings” album is sure to provide mega-hits across Europe and the US.
Irena is not only an entertainer. She is also becoming a visible personality and brand. She has been a freelance reporter for Oasis TV, a Los Angeles based Time Warner Cable TV network; appeared as a musical guest on many radio and television shows, such as WPKN, WICC, WVOF, SIRIUS Radio, and Alive with Clive, to name a few; and was featured in the October 2008 issue of Better Health and Living Magazine as well as in the Connecticut Post. She wrote the theme music for a TV show, Touchstones (which she also hosted); wrote and recorded the theme song called “It’s Our Turn” for the Boltwic online community; and composed and recorded the Harmony4Kidz theme song, “Save the World.”
Irena has personally touched and affected over 100 homeless kids that sleep on the streets of America. Her musical talents and the reflection of their plight in her own experience compelled her to form the not-for-profit organization, Harmony4Kidz. Through Harmony4Kidz, she seeks to feed, clothe, and find shelter for homeless youth all over the world. Irena is also working on a book about her homeless experience called Bermuda Road. With music and the arts, Irena transforms lives with her authentic story. Her music and personhood have powerful messages and international appeal.
Irena Hart is a happening about to happen. As she takes the global stage — get ready — and dance!
During her second interview on Alive with CliveonOctober 10, 2008, Irena explained where the inspiration for the song, “Save The World,” came from, as follows:
“I was planning a concert in Central Park and needed a street team of kids to spread the word. A 17-year old girl brought us to a team of kids to do the street team job. It turned out they were all homeless kids. It was a real shock to me. Right that night, after I met all the kids, I went to see the Al Gore movie, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ about global warming and everything that’s going on, and… just… the two incidents together really upset me. First of all, why are there homeless kids in the heart of New York City? It was Union Square Park, and, you know, up to that point I was pretty much self-absorbed doing my own thing not really thinking about the environment, not really thinking about that there might be people that are in need. Well, I woke up the next morning with a song – which… I normally don’t wake up with a song… usually I have to sit down… it doesn’t just happen… all… the whole song with the melody line, all the chords and everything – and it’s called ‘Save The World.’”
The themes of homelessness and global warming, together with Irena’s awakening, are thus deftly woven into the lyrics of “Save The World,” in which she declares:
Me I was sleeping
I didn’t have big dreams at all
Then I woke up one day. I decided to
Save the world
. . . .
Me I am no one special
Just your average ordinary girl
But I can make a difference
Cause I decided I can
Save the world
That experience, as noted in Irena’s Bio above, also led her to form Harmony4Kidz. She has gone on to organize and perform at benefit concerts to raise funds for Harmony4Kidz and continues to take steps to carry out the mission of the organization. For more information about Harmony4Kidz, go to www.harmony4kidz.org.
On behalf of all of us, I hereby acknowledge Irena not just for taking action when she was called upon to do so to write and record the song, “Save The World,” but also for the positive, uplifting and inspiring impact she has had in sharing the song with all of us and creating Harmony4Kidz. Thank you, Irena!
Here’s the video clip for you to enjoy of Irena Hart singing “Save The World”on Alive with Clive:
”Extraordinary You”by Diana Page is the eighteenth song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive in the past couple of years.
Diana performed “Extraordinary You” during her second interview on Alive with Clive on March 13, 2009.
“I grew up in New York City on the upper east side. I never considered doing anything else besides music whether it be singing or songwriting. It just never occurred to me to do anything else. I’ve been singing on commercials and doing voice-overs since I was 6 years old which has afforded me the luxury to write and record songs at my leisure without playing the part of the struggling artist. Actually it has been recently that I gave up that role. I always figured that no one would be interested in someone who was generally a happy person. Well, that was silly. In other words, I have found my authenticity — meaning it’s ok to write happy positive songs and still be “cool”. I would say my childhood was somewhat normal — other than being a busy jingle singer in elementary school. . . and having a mom that fed us 3 bean sandwiches for lunch when everyone was eating PB&J. . . and meditating when all the other kids were watching TV. . . and moving from New York to Iowa in Jr. High… — Ok well maybe my childhood wasn’t that normal. But it was happy and loving. And I mean happy and loving as in I hate my parents and I can’t wait to turn 18 and move out kind of way haha which probably means my parents were doing something right. I always loved being in the studio the most. I learned to record myself early on because my dad wasn’t doing it fast enough for me. (Oh yea and I had full access to my dad’s recording studio.) So that has been the biggest bonus for me. . . being able to record my own vocals and not have to rely on anyone to engineer. My other favorite thing is songwriting. It is so much fun to write songs and collaborate with really talented people. I still cannot grasp the concept of how a finished song manifests out of nothing. It’s amazing. From the moment you sit down and say “ok what should we write about?” to mixing the demo, it’s an adventure. And after every adventure I smile and feel fulfilled for a fleeting moment until I embark on the next one.” -d
Diana spent time in 2008 and the earlier part of 2009 to write and record a series of spiritually soulful songs with “a healing quality – easy on the ears and uplifting to the spirit” – for a band called Purple Sirus. These songs can be heard at the MySpace page for Purple Sirus: www.myspace.com/purplesirus.
Diana is also an exceptionally talented actress and comedienne, and her talent as such is on display in a humorous clip with an important message for the planet called: “Don’t Go Paperless!” Here is the clip:
Because of its positive and uplifting message, her song, “Extraordinary You,” was featured in a Public Service Announcement as part of a campaign for Strong American Schools backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Other artists who participated in the campaign included Jason Mraz, Natasha Bedingfield, Colbie Caillat, Ashanti, and Kanye West.
We all have a critical voice inside our head. For many, that voice often saps energy, eliminates inspiration, produces anxiety and causes a sense of disempowerment.
“Extraordinary You” is the perfect antidote to that critical voice.
Here is an excerpt from the chorus of “Extraordinary You”:
If you could only see what I’d see you’d realize that
You’re extraordinary no one else can fill your shoes
Every move you make is so uniquely you
You’re extraordinary I know you’re one of a kind
Lucky me I turned around to find
Extraordinary you
Imagine, too, if every person started each day by listening to or singing “Extraordinary You!” People would be far more likely to revere themselves and each other, and collectively we’d be providing the mindset to create an upward spiral of brilliance and joy in the world!
Here’s the video clip, including the public service announcement for Strong American Schools, for you to enjoy of Diana Page singing “Extraordinary You”on Alive with Clive:
Oh No No by Kylie Edmond is the seventeenth song to be featured on my Blog as part of my mission to provide you with inspiration through songs that have been performed by musicians on Alive with Clive over the past couple of years.
Kylie performed Oh No No during her first interview on Alive with Clive on November 7, 2008.
Kylie is originally from sunny Perth in Western Australia. Although she had been writing songs on and off over the years, it wasn’t until a trip to London a few years ago that she decided to make things happen. Sitting in a hotel room watching the London rain, she decided it was time to follow her heart and pursue her passions. So she moved to New York City in search of inspiration and adventure.
In recent months, at established music venues in and outside New York City, Kylie has been participating in a popular series of concerts she created called “Girls Rock The Night!” alongside such other emerging female musicians who have been on Alive with Clive as Jessica Labus, Athena Reich, Melissa Wrolstad, Dani Tersini, Cassandra Kubinski and Kelsey Rauber — and one lucky guy, Robert Daniels, who has also been on Alive with Clive.
Kylie was signed to music publishing company, Missing Link Music, in January 2009 and has been spending time in the studio recording new songs with her co-writer, Griffin. She recently performed for the SESAC Writers on the Storm showcase for up-and-coming talent and was featured as a Spotlight Member with the Songwriters Guild of America. She has played in famous New York City venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Baggot Inn, The Bitter End, Caffe Vivaldi, The Sidewalk Cafe, Banjo Jim’s, Parkside Lounge and Waltz-Astoria.
Kylie is one of the most inspiring, energetic and entertaining emerging musicians to have been interviewed on Alive with Clive. At the start of her second interview on Alive with Clive recently, I described her as an I-D-E-A-L role model, with the word I-D-E-A-L representing an acronym for:
I – Inspiring
D – Dynamic
E – Exciting
A – Action-Oriented
L – Loving
In short, you can learn a lot about turning your passion into profit and multiplying your magnificence from Kylie Edmond. And it’s wonderful to see her blossoming as a musician too.
Kylie wrote Oh No No after a friend of hers told her that she was trapped in a relationship in which she was being subjected to violent abuse. Statistics reveal that a disturbingly high percentage of women are victims of domestic abuse in their relationships. The message of the song provides powerful words of encouragement to women to ignore the internal voice that causes them to justify staying in that kind of relationship so they can disentangle themselves from their living nightmare and start anew.
Here is one of the verses from Oh No No:
Walk away
And leave your hell in the past
Better off alone
Alone at last
Take your pride
Leave everything else behind
Got wings to fly
You shine so bright
While the song is focused primarily to provide support for women who are in relationships in which they are being violently abused, the message can be applied by anyone who is being victimized by adverse circumstances over which they feel they don’t have any power or control.
